Workshops
Workshop A.

Staying Young at Heart and Flexible Too

Learn how to stay on top of your game physically, sexually, and mentally. Become energized as you experience the twists and turns necessary to stay healthy and avoid mobility restrictions as you get older. An added benefit is a healthy heart.

 

PRESENTERS

rlRichard Levandowski, M.D., is a board certified sports medicine and family physician. He has been Director of Athletic Medicine at Princeton University and has worked with the United States Olympic Committee, U.S. Track and Field, and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National team. Dr. Levandowski currently serves as chairman of the New Jersey Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. Voted the 2007 Volunteer Family Physician Teacher of the Year, he is especially interested in a comprehensive, kind, compassionate, and caring approach to healthcare for his patients.

cbCara Barlis, M.D., is a board certified family physician. At Princeton Sports and Family Medicine, Dr. Barlis strives to provide excellent primary care to adults and adolescents.  She is interested in all aspects of women’s health including preventive medicine, osteoporosis, menopausal symptoms, and mood disorders.  Dr. Barlis also serves as College Health Physician at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.  In addition, she has volunteered her services in medical mission trips to Guatemala, caring for families in rural areas.

FACILITATOR

PTPamela Taylor is Assistant Director of Teen PEP at the Princeton Center for Leadership Training. She is a trainer and facilitator who provides technical assistance and on-site consultation to program schools. She also designs and facilitates advisor training events, and monitors program implementation.

 


Workshop B.

Losing Weight and Finally Keeping It Off

According to the March 2011 report, Women in America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being, prepared for the White House Council on Women and Girls, “increasing numbers of women live with conditions such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.” Based in Princeton for 26 years, Joyce Hofmann has been helping her clients change their relationship with food, exercise, and themselves. Learn firsthand how one of her clients, through patience and guidance, committed herself to a healthy lifestyle.

 

PRESENTERS

jhJoyce Hofmann, is founder and President of Princeton Weight Loss Corp. For over 25 years, Ms. Hofmann has helped thousands of clients lose weight and finally keep it off by providing a sensible program for sustainable weight loss. Ms. Hofmann is a motivational speaker on weight loss to corporations, including Johnson & Johnson, and to schools and community organizations.

lmLisa Miller is a certified fitness trainer with certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Power Plate, TRX, Kettlebells, Pilates, and Yoga. She provides a blend of cardiovascular exercise through bands, weights, and body weight training at her gym in Belle Mead.

 

mhMandy Holanda is a retired nurse who enlisted the help of a professional nutritionist and personal trainer to lose weight and keep it off. She now gives talks to serve as an inspiration to others who face similar challenges. She has three daughters and is involved with USTA and team tennis. Mandy, who was born in Northern Ireland, resides in Montgomery Township.

FACILITATOR

lrLaura Fenster Rothschild is Director of High School Transition Programs at the Princeton Center for Leadership Training. She is a New Jersey certified school psychologist and has a background in program planning, implementation and evaluation.

 

 


Workshop C.

ATM: Bank on Healing Through Acupuncture, the Trager® Approach and Meditation

Through a powerful blend of Western psychology and Eastern meditative and healing strategies, experience firsthand how your body and mind can be liberated from pain and stress. Learn how to take care of your pain before it overtakes you.

 

PRESENTERS

bpBetty Serrano Post is a certified Trager® practitioner, a biodynamic craniosacral therapist, and a licensed massage therapist. With a private practice in Princeton Junction, Ms. Post uses gentle, rhythmic movement to connect a client to her body. This hands on work, developed by Milton Trager, M.D., helps clients to release unnecessary tension, improve their mobility, and create a greater sense of well-being.

juJohn P. Urich, L.Ac, has been a New Jersey Board Licensed Acupuncturist since 1986. He is considered one of NJ's leading practitioners. John has continued to take professional continuing education courses in Chinese medicine every year and has administered over 100,000 Acupuncture treatments to date. He heads Lawrenceville Acupuncture Center, LLC.

 

wyWendy Young has been studying, teaching, and practicing the healing effects of sound, music, and vibration for over 20 years, and has worked with many of the leaders in this field. Her particular specialties are Cymatherapy, Himalayan Singing Bowls, and sound meditation. Next year, she will be the Program Facilitator for the New York Open Center’s Sound and Music Institute, a 9-month certification program in therapeutic sound and music. Wendy lives in Princeton, NJ where, in addition to being a sought-after teacher and therapist, she has an active performing career as a harpsichordist and teaches harpsichord both privately and at Princeton University.

aaAbby Attias, Ph.D., is Vice President of the Princeton Center for Leadership Training, overseeing, designing, and delivering customized projects for schools throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Her dual focus on Student & Family Advisory programming and building instructional capacity represents the conviction that students achieve and thrive when they are engaged by relationships, relevance, and rigor.


Workshop D.

Midlife and Beyond: Balancing Hormones, Emotions, Nutritional and Metabolic Needs

In midlife, women experience physical and emotional symptoms that affect their overall well-being. Consider a balanced and health-oriented approach to gynecological concerns, including menopause management, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain and vaginitis. Frank talk will lead to new insights about midlife concerns for participants attending this compassionate conversation with two Princeton-area specialists.

 

PRESENTERS

ktKate Thomsen, M.D., is board certified in family medicine and practices in Pennington, NJ. Patient-centered and holistic, Dr. Kate has a major focus on disease prevention and health promotion.

 

 

msMaria Sophocles, M.D., FACOG, is a board certified gynecologist practicing in New Jersey. Although trained in minimally invasive surgery, she focuses her practice on adolescent gynecology and menopausal issues. She believes in educating her patients, and in taking time to listen so her patients can share delicate information.

asdAngela Spence DeGraff is the Founding Principal of AngelWorks Consulting, whose services include assessment and project management; capacity-building and leadership development; technical assistance and coaching; curriculum and materials design; workshop and retreat planning; and executive transitions facilitation.  


Workshop E.

Raising Children with Less Stress: Lessons We Can Learn

Recent studies show that children are more impulsive, disobedient, lonely, sad, irritable, and violent than ever before. Focusing on toddlers through the tween years, learn about an approach called emotionally intelligent parenting, which offers specific parenting strategies that address family and school-related issues affecting your children.

 

PRESENTERS

meMaurice J. Elias, Ph.D., is a nationally known co-developer of the Social Decision Making/Social Problem Solving Project. Dr. Elias is a Professor of Psychology at Rutgers University and Academic Director of Rutgers Civic Engagement and Service Education Partnerships Program. He is the lead author of the book, Emotionally Intelligent Parenting: How to Raise a Self-Disciplined, Responsible, Socially-Skilled Child.

mbMelissa Brand, Psy.D., is a mom, psychologist, teacher, and writer. She is a licensed Pennsylvania psychologist and New Jersey certified school psychologist who leads parent training groups and works with Equilibria Psychological and Consultation Services in Philadelphia.


Workshop F.

Matters of the Breast

Learn about leading edge medical technology and research on breast cancer genetics, prevention and treatment. Two leading medical oncologists in the area help participants make sense of the confusing, conflicting, and often ambiguous information we hear about all forms of cancer that has been promulgated by the media and on websites.

 

PRESENTERS 

dtDeborah L. Toppmeyer, M.D., is medical oncologist at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and associate professor of medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She is participating in innovative and targeted treatments based on understanding the genetic differences in breast cancer.

 

rdRachel P. Dultz, M.D., FACS,is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist and a board-certified surgeon as well as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). She has been treating patients with breast problems for over ten years in Princeton and the surrounding community. She has a private practice in the Breast Center in East Windsor.

 

FACILITATOR

chChristine V. Harris, co-owner of For a Change Consulting, is a Clinical Psychology Psy.D. candidate with experience designing and presenting educational and professional development workshops. She has been helping individuals and families achieve lasting behavior changes that improve relationships and functioning for over 10 years.

 


Workshop G.

Facing Anxiety and Fears Head On: The Process of Letting Go

Many women suffer from anxiety-related conditions, often arising from fears that began in childhood or adolescence. Common phobias, including fear of flying, social anxiety, and speaking in public, will be explored by looking at practical ways to confront and overcome these fears.

 

PRESENTERS

spSharon Rose Powell, Ed.D., is a New Jersey licensed psychologist who founded Princeton Psychological Partners, LLC. Dr. Powell is the developer of the peer leadership training model that began at Princeton High School in 1979. She is the founding president of the Princeton Center for Leadership Training (PCLT). After 20 years running PCLT, Dr. Powell has resumed her practice in Princeton working with individuals, couples, families and groups. Dr. Powell is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Masters at the University of California at Berkeley and her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Rutgers University.

ngNancy Goldin, M.D., is a board certified psychiatrist. She received her AB from Brown University and her medical degree from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in 1993. After completing her post graduate residency at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Goldin moved to the Princeton area in 1998. She joined the staff of the University Medical Center at Princeton in 2000 where she was the psychiatrist for the Women’s Trauma and Women’s Wellness  programs. In 2006, Dr. Goldin opened her private practice. With deep interests in both psychotherapy as well as psychopharmacology, she appreciates being able to work with her patients in both modalities.

wrWhitney B. Ross, Ed.M., Ph.D., is currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Princeton Center for Leadership Training. Dr. Ross has worked with groups facilitating workshops and conferences for over twenty-five years.
